PepperText is a text expander. When you type a shortcut PepperText will expand it into a larger text called a snippet. You just have to set up your snippets once, and PepperText will forever type them for you. Text expanders are used to save time, keystrokes, and to ensure consistent and accurate typing.
You can use PepperText to insert large blocks of text, email addresses, medical terminology, symbols, really anything you can think of. Anything you type more than once can be added to PepperText so you won’t have to do any more repetitive typing.
On the left of the PepperText window is the navigation pane. This is where you can create folders and pages to organise your snippets.
To create a new folder, just click on the 'New Folder' button beside the Snippets Collection at the top, then give it a name:
To create a new page, click on the 'New Page' button beside the folder you want it to belong to:
Right-click on a folder or page to rename or delete it:
Clicking on a page in the navigation pane will open it in the main window where it will display all the snippets belonging to it.
To add a new snippet, click on the ‘new snippet’ button in the top right of the window:
Put your shortcut text to the left of the blue button, and your snippet text to the right. Remember, the shortcut is what you type, the snippet is what gets typed for you in response.
The snippet textbox will expand to accommodate multiline snippets as you type.
There are three ways PepperText can expand text. We call these modes:
The mode is determined by the blue button between the shortcut and snippet:
You can change the mode by clicking the button which will cycle through the three options:
Or you can right-click to select the mode from a drop-down list:
With Instant Text Replace, the expansion happens immediately. As soon as you type the shortcut, BAM! The text is replaced.
With Text Replace (not instant!), when you type the shortcut a preview of the snippet will appear. You can chose to ignore it (just keep typing), or hit TAB to trigger the expansion. The text will only replace if you hit TAB.
Text Complete works the same way as Text Replace, only you’re not replacing the text, you’re completing it - so the shortcut stays and the snippet just appends onto the end of it. Hit TAB to expand the snippet:
You can hit TAB to expand the snippet at any point while you're typing it:
